| Jasper Murdoch was born into a fishing family in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia in the early 1900s, and spent most of his teens fishing off the coast with his father and brothers. After Prohibition came along in 1920, he leapt at the chance to become a rum runner out of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, and spent a few adventurous years running shipments of liquor to Maine, Boston, and New York — but for him, just rum running wasn't enough. In his excitement to get more involved, he crossed the wrong people in the business, and was murdered in New York City in 1928, with his remains disposed of quietly and never seen again. Since then, his ghost has hung around, haunting areas around New York City's upper bay, appearing in parks and bars and other places close to the water; sometimes aware, sometimes adrift, and sometimes, in the loneliest places at the water's edge, dangerous. |
